Technique is not the answer.  Expression (passion, content, intent, meaning) is the answer.  Find out what you want to express with your heart and your head, and then use technique, design, materials and subject matter to deliver that expression.  And remember that one teacher's technique will not be the right one for you.  That singular technique delivers the teacher's expression, not yours.  You have to find your own.   - Alex Powers
